We were warned, “It’s really raunchy, just to let you know.” whispered a House of Blues Anaheim staff member as we were ordering our umpteenth mimosa. The show was about to start and we were hoping it was extra raunchy. We grew up in Los Angeles, specifically Beverly Hills/WeHo area and we were hoping for a little raunch, because let’s face it, OC needs a little grit.
We wanted a little sizzle in our fried bacon, a little spice in our jambalaya, and the Drag Queens of House of Blues were going to show this town what fun, debauchery, and hilarious shenanigans were all about. Pre-show everyone took their seats in the massive hall (you know the layout at House of Blues). The buffet was set up in four different stations which included an omelette station, southern comfort breakfast station, and our favorite – the bar. Bloody Marys and Mimosas with orange and cranberry juices were flowing like rainbow waterfalls.
The food was delish! At the House of Blues, you’ll get the home-cooked southern comfort food. The biscuits and gravy were just like our Southern grandma used to make (okay we don’t have a southern grandma, but if we did she would make them like this) – creamy, dreamy with that kick of spicy sausage. Fried catfish, gumbo, chicken jambalaya, pecan pie, and just about every down south dessert you can think of was sitting pretty at the buffet. The omelette station was quick and tasty – you can choose from a variety of ingredients and the Omelette Chef will make it there for you on the spot. We overate as usual because that’s pretty much the law at brunch, but we needed the extra carbs for the extra exciting show starting in two minutes.
The audience had enough energy to fuel a Tesla for a day and Willam, the hostess with the mostess makeup and sass used that energy for an awesome show! There were birthday parties, anniversaries, bachelorette parties, and every party in between brunching with bubbles.
Imagine a musical revue with style (hello! Willam wears Christian Louboutin stilettos throughout the show), hilarious audience interactions, and songs that take you back to that time and place where ABBA’s Dancing Queen was your life’s theme song. Beautiful and fierce drag queens Morgan McMichaels, Trinna Modele, and Misty Violet each had blazing solos with dance moves that would make an Olympic gymnast throw their hands up in defeat. Dildo Dodgeball was just one of the hilarious audience interactions Willam had in store for the brunch guests as well as the many wardrobe changes a’la Diana Ross which featured a scandalous lace bodysuit, Louboutin stiletto booties, and a hoverboard. Can you rock a hoverboard wearing stilettos? Didn’t think so.
