Growing up in Los Angeles, a birthday party was not complete without the heavenly Triple Berry Cake from Sweet Lady Jane. It is seriously a cake sent from the Gods, and I have missed it ever since I moved out of LA almost a decade ago. When I heard Sweet Lady Jane was coming to Orange County I was so excited that I would once again be reunited with the cake that triggers so many wonderful childhood memories. However, don’t be deceived by its bakery reputation, Sweet Lady Jane also has a wonderful breakfast and lunch menu that features a wide variety of delicious savory fare.
The WTT girls checked out the new Newport Beach location for lunch and were very pleased with the service and menu selections. I order the half sandwich and salad combo, which is only $11.95, a fantastic price- especially for the size of the portion. For my sandwich I chose the Curried Chicken Salad, made with all white meat in a light curry seasoning with raisins. It has a really nice, light curry flavor that balances well with the sweetness of the raisins. I had it on their incredible fluffy rosemary bread, which really made the sandwich come together.
I also had the Sweet Lady Jane Salad, which is made with greens, jicama, cucumber, kidney beans, cherry tomatoes, gorgonzola, olives, green onions, hearts of palm, and quinoa with a lemon olive oil vinaigrette. It was salad perfection. I don’t know how else to describe it. I am one of those weird people that really enjoys eating salads and vegetables- but surprisingly I am not a vegetarian as I also love meat…
This salad is fresh, flavorful and has so many delicious goodies in it- even an underrated vegetable like jicama makes an appearance.
We absolutely recommend checking out Sweet Lady Jane for lunch- we will definitely be back soon.
